The Times carried an interesting article this week on the changing gender balance in online poker, reporting that in the past year the number of female players has risen dramatically.
Without quoting a source, the story reveals that more than a third of the tens of millions of online players are now women.
In common with their male counterparts, women players seem to prefer Texas Hold ‘Em above other poker games.
Land poker competitions are also attracting increasing numbers of female poker heads. Julian Morel (36) who runs Poker Girl.co.uk says that the majority of his (female) clients are in property, PR or fashion, and the prizes of manicures and facials are not why they turn up. “It is the new social thing for women to do and gives them a chance to surprise their partners when they say they are going out for the night,” he opines.
