Online poker fans can expect some major league land action this week with the start of the fourth Poker Stars World Cup of Poker, which features 40 top players from eight different countries competing for honour and a healthy cash prize.
The four-player teams qualified earlier for the final rounds now taking place at the Casino de Barcelona. Each of the eight teams have been joined by a fifth team member selected by Poker Stars, including players of the calibre of Greg Raymer (USA), Daniel Negreanu (Canada), and Katja Thater (Germany).
This year’s WCP international line-up includes the UK, Canada, USA, Ireland, Portugal, Iceland, Mexico and Romania. Last year’s event was won by Poland, which failed to qualify for this year’s finals in a tough pre-finals competition, delivering the top four teams by overall performance for Friday’s final.
At stake is a $220 000 prize-pool, with the winning team taking the lion’s share of $100 000 for division among team members. The remainder of the pool will go to the second, third and fourth placed teams in the ratio $60 000, $40 000 and $20 000.
