The succession of big money Internet poker clashes between mystery Swedish player Isildur1 and top world poker aces continues to deliver nightly entertainment and speculation to poker fans everywhere.
In the latest episode, respected Finnish poker pro Patrik Antonius felt the pain of Isildur1’s bite, going down $700 000 in a tough, 5 028 hand session on Full Tilt Poker’s nosebleed tables.
With the current record for largest online poker pot set earlier this week at $1.356 million (see previous reports) the latest session failed to crack the record books, but it did produce an uncommonly large number of big-money pots, with eighteen worth around $400 000 and another five valued at $500 000 or more, according to the independent stats site MarketPulse.
Isildur and Antonius faced off Monday night on the $500/$1 000 Pot-Limit Omaha tables and stayed there for the entire twelve-and-a-half hour session, with the largest pot – taken by Isildur1 – around the $555 000 mark.
It just wasn’t Antonius’s night, and the fighting Finn had his work cut out to contain his losses at $700 000; at an early stage in the match he found himself a scary $1.6 million down, and it is a mark of his skill and determination that he managed to come back from that low point, although it took him most of the session to do so.
For Isildur1 it was another good night in a week where his fortunes have swung as widely as his aggressive and audacious style of playing.
