Winamax.fr, an independent French online poker operator, announced Tuesday evening that its one millionth player had registered, with 330 000 of clients operating real money accounts.

Winamax was among the first sites to enter the liberalised French online gambling sector last June, marketing its services aggressively in a campaign that included award-winning television advertisements. The company plans to air a new television campaign with a prehistoric theme starting later this week.

Winamax is owned by five shareholders including actor Patrick Bruel and founder of the dating site Meetic, Marc Simoncini. The company employs some 70 people in its offices near the Esplanade des Invalides in Paris.

?A year ago, we were a small French start-up with the ambition to set the benchmark for internet poker in France and we won our bet,? Frichet Canel, CEO of Winamax said this week.
