Internet and live tournament poker pro Sorel Mizzi has boosted his career earnings by a useful Euro 234,495 by winning the 2011 WPT Grand Prix de Paris High Roller event, beating Freddy Deeb heads-up in a reversal of the title Deeb took from him a year ago.
The Euro 15,000 buy-in event attracted only 36 entries, generating a prize pool of Euro 521,000, and took place at the Aviation Club de France this week.
The final table comprised Deeb and Mizzi, along with Nichlas Mattsson, J?r?me Zerbib and Christopher Lastiwka, but it was Mizzi who dominated the competition, taking the chip lead on the first day of the action and retaining it through to the start of final table play.
He continued to control the contest, eventually facing Deeb in the heads up with a more than 4 to 1 lead over his opponent after dispatching Mattisson in third place.
Although Deeb put up a valiant fight, and at one point staged what appeared to be a solid comeback, he was no match for red hot Mizzi and had to be content with the runner up prize of Euro 130,275, leaving Mizzi to claim the title and the big money.
The win brings Mizzi’s live tournament career earnings alone to over $4 million.
