Further evidence of the mounting desperation of pro-Federal legalisation of online poker surfaced this week in the form of a statement from the American Gaming Association (AGA) which urges Congress to pass “The Internet Gambling Prohibition, Poker Consumer Protection and Strengthening UIGEA Act of 2012” or better known as the Reid/Kyl Bill.
The AGA is encouraging Congress to introduce and pass the bill claiming dire consequences for gaming patrons, problem gamblers and minors should a set of Federal minimum standards not be introduced.
“Without swift congressional action, the U.S. will soon see the largest expansion of legal gambling in its history,” said Frank J. Fahrenkopf, Jr., president and CEO of the AGA. “And without any federal guidelines in place, the result will almost certainly be inadequate oversight that creates a world of unnecessary risk and problems for law enforcement and U.S. consumers.”

The AGA vows to keep the pressure on over the remaining couple of weeks of the current Congressional session by lobbying lawmakers and utilising social media and Capitol Hill news outlets to spread its word.
