Earlier this year here was extensive speculation that an upcoming Congressional bill on cyber security may be used by online poker proponents to push through a legalisation amendment as an ‘add-on’.
That bill goes to the House Judiciary Committee for mark-up next Tuesday, and will therefore be watched with interest by many within the industry.
The bill, which seeks to stiffen penalties for cybercrime, is promoted by Representative Bob Goodlatte, and therein lies potential irony. Goodlatte is an arch opponent of online gambling and in the past has been in the forefront of moves to ban the pastime!
