The first event of this year’s World Series of Poker – the $500 buy-in employees event – has been won by poker journalist Chad Holloway and is in the record books.

Holloway is the senior news editor for PokerNews.com, and as such he qualified as a WSOP contractor for entry.

Holloway survived a hungry and aggressive entry field of 899 other hopefuls, and a talented final table to finish in the heads up with Allan Kwong.

It was a tough and uncompromising battle, but Holloway prevailed to take home the $84,915 main prize and his first WSOP winner’s bracelet, leaving his opponent with a runner-up prize worth $52,318.

The final table in the event included Bobby Rooney, Brian Pingel, Daniel Ellery, Sean Small, Tyrone Smith, Michael Trivett and Hieu Le.
