The last outing of the $1 Million buy-in Big One for One Drop charity event at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas saw winning poker pro Antonio Esfandiari taking home $18,346,673, and according to founder Guy Laliberte, next year’s return of the event will see the winner claiming $20 million.
Laliberte has announced the return of the big charity competition in 2014 as part of the World Series of Poker.
“It was a terrific inaugural event in 2012 with One Drop raising nearly $5.7 million from the Big One event,” Laliberté revealed.
“There is still a lot of work to be done to ensure access to water for all. I have no doubt that the poker community will once again live up to its reputation for generosity by helping to transform lives sustainably.”
A percentage of the prize pool generated by the event is deployed to provide clean water in struggling third world countries.
Next year’s One Drop entry field will be capped at 56 players, and is scheduled to start on June 29 at Caesars Palace, concluding on July 1 with a televised final table. Around 16 to 20 percent of the field will cash for amounts calculated on a sliding scale.
The 2012 Big One for One Drop was capped at 48 players and sold out.
