The World Series of Poker organisers have released official figures for the total number of entries for this year’s $10,000 buy-in Main Event, noting that at 7,221 players it is the third largest achieved in the 48-year history of poker’s most prestigious competition.
Every big name in poker, and thousands of enthusiastic amateur players, appear on the registration rolls this year, some already eliminated and others hanging in for the massive first prize, which this year will be $8,150,000.
The large entry has created a prize pool of $67,877,400, and the last 1,084 players will cash at least $15,000.
The final table nine will be competing for these pay-outs:
1st – $8,150,000
2nd – $4,700,000
3rd – $3,500,000
4th – $2,600,000
5th – $2,000,000
6th – $1,675,000
7th – $1,425,000
8th – $1,200,000
9th – $1,000,000
Three entry days were set aside for registrations this year: Day 1A attracted 795 players; Day 1B pulled in another 2,164, and Day 1C boosted the total by 4,262.
