An Amaya Inc. 2017 annual and special meeting of shareholders Wednesday approved the company’s planned re-brand to The Stars Group Inc., expected to take effect by the end of August 2017 along with the relocation of its headquarters to Ontario.

In addition, Amaya Inc. revealed its imminent entry into the largely untapped Indian market through its PokerStars brand, at a press briefing in Montreal after the meeting.

The company confirmed its executive is currently in India agreeing a deal with a local partner and existing licensee which will enable it to launch its online poker offer by the end of 2017.

“It’s a booming country,” Rafi Ashkenazi, chief executive officer of Amaya Inc. said. “We want to be there in time and we want to make sure that we are, as usual, the market leader when it comes to poker.”
