Poker entrepreneur Alex Dreyfus’ much-publicised Global Poker League took a big step forward Wednesday with the release by Mediarex Sports & Entertainment of team titles and managers of the 12 participating franchises.
Last week Dreyfus gave an appetiser when he revealed that Chris Moneymaker would captain the Las Vegas Moneymakers (see previous report) and this has been followed by the unveiling of 111 stellar team member names and their managers, many of them notable international players who have signed two year contracts for the GPL.
Pokerstars perhaps predictably has a strong presence, with 5 of the 12 team managers from that group, who will have the responsibility for picking a successful roster for their teams, with February 25 set as the deadline for Draft Day, which will be mc’d by popular presenter and player Kara Scott.
Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu have agreed to serve as analysts for the show, which will be streamed live on Twitch.
“Today is an exciting day in Global Poker League history, the confirmation of our team managers is a crucial step towards our goal. We’ve secured an incredible amount of talented leaders to represent our 12 franchise teams as well as strong intent from some of the world’s best poker players to make themselves draftable on 25th February. We’re looking forward to what the next few months and the inaugural season of the Global Poker League will bring for fans across the globe,” Dreyfus said in a press statement.
