215 competitive and determined entrants ponied up Euro 25,000 apiece to play in the European Poker Tour High Roller event mid-week, but it was online pro Charlie “Epiphany77” Carrel (21) who walked away the winner Friday to claim a prize of Euro 1,114,00 – the lion’s share of a massive Euro 5,267,500 prize pool.

Entrants included big names like Daniel Negreanu, Philipp Gruissem, Isaac Haxton and Igor Kurganov, none of whom managed to make a final table that consisted of of Carrel, Imad Derwiche, Steve O’Dwyer, Andrey Andreev (chip leader), Max Altergott, Dario Sammartino, Jeremy Ausmus and Dan Smith.

In the heads up, Carrel held a formidable chip lead as he faced the talented French player Imad Derwiche. Although the Frenchman put up a good fight over the next 30 hands, the disparity was too great for him to overcome and Carrel soon claimed the victory, sending Derwiche home with a second placing check for Euro 750,000 at hand number 160 of final table action.

It was Carrel’s biggest win yet, and adds to an illustrious CV that already records wins worth GBP 108,625 last November in the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Grand Final, big money in online Sunday Millions tourneys, and Euro 183,800 earlier this year when he took down the EPT Malta (see previous reports).

The other final table players cashed as follows:

Steve O’Dwyer Euro 528,700

Andrey Andreev Euro 428,700

Max Altergott Euro 339,100

Dario Sammartino Euro 257,400

Jeremy Ausmus Euro 188,000

Dan Smith Euro 137,400
