The ongoing uncertainty regarding online poker legalisation in Poland (see previous reports) could soon be at an end, according to recent information posted by the legal specialist DLA Piper.
The presently unregulated gene will be the subject of a new gaming bill scheduled for introduction by the end of April, a DLA Piper legal expert claims, advising that gaming operators who have a light presence in Poland will be eligible for online gambling licensing.
However, companies may be deterred by the proposed 12 percent tax on turnover in the draft bill, despite the appeal of a national population of almost 38 million people, and there is a possibility that lawmakers will relent and instead consider a tax based more reasonably on GGR.
Poland will also have to tread carefully in the new legislation to avoid incurring the displeasure of the European Commission, which is already bridling at the current restrictions as non-compliant with EU law.
