Danish sports betting fans will soon be able to enjoy safe and fair online betting on sports in Denmark on PokerStars, an Amaya Inc. brand.

The Spillemyndigheden (Danish Gambling Authority) has awarded PokerStars a temporary one-year sports betting licence, and the company plans to apply for a full five-year permit.

PokerStars, which entered the sports betting vertical comparatively recently (see previous reports) says that it hopes to launch the new Danish sports betting operation in the near future, but in the meantime the company’s Danish-licensed online casino will continue to serve the online gambling public in the Nordic nation.

“Online betting is an exciting pastime for sports fans and provides a way for them to put their passion and knowledge to the test in competition with friends and other fans,” said Eric Hollreiser, vice president of corporate communications for Amaya.

“We’re pleased to offer sports betting under a licence that ensures local oversight of the industry and allows PokerStars to bring its gaming expertise and high standards of integrity, compliance and security to Danish bettors. This furthers Amaya’s commitment to the responsible growth of online gaming by supporting local regulation that protects players, creates a viable, competitive marketplace and provides revenue for local governments.”

PokerStars.dk player funds are protected in secure and segregated accounts, separate from operational funds and are always available to players.
