Promising poker streaming service hacked.

The nascent and very promising poker streaming facility Twitch (see previous reports) has been hacked, but is fighting back with a series of measures, it advised Wednesday in a website notice and communications direct with users.

The announcement reads:

“We are writing to let you know that there may have been unauthorized access to some Twitch user account information.

“For your protection, we have expired passwords and stream keys and have disconnected accounts from Twitter and YouTube. As a result, you will be prompted to create a new password the next time you attempt to log into your Twitch account.

“We also recommend that you change your password at any website where you use the same or a similar password. We will communicate directly with affected users with additional details.”

The breach announcement was picked up by the Wall Street Journal, which unsuccessfully attempted to obtain further details from Twitch.

It is therefore not presently known exactly what sort of information were compromised ie personal or financial details.

For now, Twitch users should follow the facility’s recommendations regarding password changes, and monitor their personal and financial communications carefully.
