Restrictive Nevada online gambling bill fails in Committee.

A bill designed to restrict any Nevada interstate player pooling compacts to online poker, introduced to the Nevada legislature earlier this year, has failed at committee stage.

It was widely believed that AB414 (see previous reports) was another attempt by land casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson to disrupt legalised online gambling, although that has not been confirmed.

The bill sought to amend existing legislation authorising the governor of Nevada to enter into interstate player pooling agreements with other US states by adding specific language that such agreements may only be entered into in respect of internet poker, and defining internet poker.

Sponsorship of the bill remains a mystery, and it bemused many industry observers who questioned its motivation, given that online poker is the only game covered by Nevada legalisation anyway.
