Houston, Texas grinder Ted Gillis is the latest WSOP bracelet winner after taking down the event 19, a $1,500 buy-in NLHE contest which recorded an entry list of 2,086 players, all keen for a share of the $2,816,100 prize pool.
The large field distilled to a final table that saw Gillis facing John Hennigan, Dejan Divkovic, Jacobo Fernandez, Mustapha Kanit, Jaime Kaplan, Hiren Patel and Dylan Thomassie.
Gillis played a low key game as the final table action unfolded, content to stay in the middle of the chip counts as the early eliminations took place, but he fired up as the game approached four-handed stage and by the time Divkovik was eliminated in third place for $222,429, the Texan held a 2 to 1 chip lead entering the heads up against John Hennigan.
It proved to a relatively quick affair, with Gillis taking just 27 hands to eliminate Herrington for $319,993 and claim the victory, a maiden bracelet and his first prize of $514,027.
