U.S. poker ace to stand for congress.

The respected American poker tournament player Frank Kassela (he holds two World Series of Poker event winner bracelets) is to throw his hat into the political ring and campaign for election to the US Congress, according to a report in the Las Vegas Sun newspaper, which claims that Kassela filed his paperwork with the election authorities last week.

Kassela hails originally from Tennessee and is a small business owner and entrepreneur, and he plans to run as a Democrat in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District, which comprises southern Las Vegas, Henderson and Boulder City when the primary elections start in June next year.

The present incumbent Joe Heck has held the seat since 2011.
