The respected US professional player Paul Volpe (35) has claimed his second World Series of Poker winner’s bracelet after besting a field of 490 other hopefuls to win the $1,500 buy-in Six-Max 8-Game competition, number 15 on the schedule.
In addition to the coveted bracelet, Volpe collected a check for $149,943 after boasting pre-event that he was confident of a win.
Whilst not as monetarily rewarding as his first bracelet in 2014, when he earned $253,524 after beating a star-studded field and Daniel Negreanu in the heads up, Volpe was just as happy with the additional jewellery from the prestigious and difficult contest. The win brings Volpe’s live tourney career earnings to almost $5 million, including 27 WSOP cashes.
The field, which created a prize pool of $662,850, was full of big names that included Barry Greenstein, Chris Clodnicki, Dave Baker, Brandon Cantu, Ralph Perry, Martin Staszko, Jason Somerville, Jason Mercier and David Bach. The average age of competitors was 40 years.
Volpe held the chip lead for much of the final table action, entering the heads up against Cleveland pro Jason Stockfish with an advantage which he was able to leverage, with some difficulty, into a win. Stockfish earned $92,638 for his finish as runner up, and the remainder of the final table cashes were:
