Bodascious Boeree wins EPT San Remo

Beauteous Brit poker pro Liv Boeree has bested 1 240 starters in the European Poker Tour San Remo tournament to take home the main prize of Euro 1.25 million, adding to her growing list of achievements in the game.

The model, TV presenter, part time physicist and formidable poker player set up the heads up when she eliminated Finland's Toni Petersson in third place to face off against Jakob Carlsson with an almost 2 to 1 chip lead.

In the final hand Boeree raised to 700 000 from the button; Carlsson went all in from the big blind, Boeree called and her pocket 5s held up against Carlsson's Ah6h to decide the game, making the former Manchester Univerity astrophysics undergrad only the third female winner of an EPT main event.

The 26-year-old learned to play poker in 2005, turning professional at the start of 2008. Since then she has had numerous tournament successes both live and online, including winning the European Ladies Championships 2008 for $30 000, a $42 000 cash in the 2009 WPT Championships, three final tables in WPT Preliminary events and four World Series of Poker cashes.

Prior to her latest victory she had amassed career earnings of some $225 000.

Boeree was introduced to the game in 2005 when she was selected to be one of five 'Poker Virgins' on Channel 5's "Ultimate Poker Showdown". During the filming of the show she decided to try her hand at a real live poker tournament, and ended up winning it, beating 124 other runners at the Gutshot club in London.

In early 2008 Liv was coached by UB.com pro Annie Duke, almost immediately winning a live tournament at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, and two months later the European Ladies title. She is a member of the UB.com professional player team, representing the company in tournaments around the world.
