Unabomber enteres the Guinness book of records

06/06/2010

Phil ‘Unabomber’ Laak (37) has achieved his target of 80 hours and then some to convincingly overturn the world poker playing endurance record of 78 hours, 45 minutes set last September in London by Paul Zimbler.

Not content with entering the Guinness Book of Records at that level, Laak told bystanders that he would continue to the 90 hour mark to make sure the new record would be very difficult to beat, and when InfoPowa went to press he had just passed the 90 hour mark.

"There have been a few times where I realized if I didn’t stand up I wouldn’t be able to keep going," said Laak. “I’ve been stretching a lot. It helped me through."

Thousands have been watching the Unabomber record attempt via Ustream.com during the four-day effort.

Laak began his quest at 1:00pm local time on Wednesday at the Bellagio Hotel-Casino in Las Vegas, and was permitted five-minute breaks for every hour played, with permission to bank some of the rest time to enable him to ablute.

A nutritionist supported his record attempt, providing meals every five hours and ensuring that he hews to the strict no-sweets, low-fat diet which he has followed since January to prepare for the attempt.
