Frankenburger the new legend
In our last report on the $5 000 buy-in World Poker Tour Legends of Poker in Los Angeles, the final table of six was down to three handed play between New Yorker and former Wall Street trader Andy Frankenburger, Kyle Wilson and Tom Lee - sole survivors of an original field of 462 entrants, all keen to corral the $750 000 winner's purse.
Frankenburger, who held the chip lead on and off for most of the event, led the three-handed tussle but it was not until the early hours of the morning that he managed to hit a club flush against 2003 Legends finalist Tom Lee, bundling him out of the competition with a third placing check for $174 772.Facing Kyle Wilson in the heads up, Frankenburger held a 3:1 chip lead, and it took only a few hands to wrap up the game and send Wilson home with a runner-up paycheck for $370 000 despite his spirited and skilful performance throughout the tourney.
Frankenburger claimed the $750 000 main prize and the unique Wild Bill Hickok trophy that goes with the Legends title.
