EPT London Main Event entries a record

10/07/2009

The management at PokerStars will be delighted with the news this week that registrations for the online poker company's European Poker Tour main event in London have eclipsed those of the WSOPE in the same city last month.

730 players entered for the EPT London main event now playing, compared to the 608 entries for the World Series of Poker Europe main event.

The numbers are also way up on last year's EPT entry list, which contined only 100 names.

The EPT's success represents the largest poker tournament ever staged in the UK, with big names like Joe Hachem, Greg Raymer, Chris Moneymaker and current world champion Peter Eastgate all flocking to London, along with sponsored celebrities such as tennis legend Boris Becker, footballer Teddy Sheringham and Dutch Hockey Pro Fatima Moreira de Melo.

The total prize pool for the PokerStars EPT London Main Event is GBP 3 540 500, with 104 players guaranteed to cash. The final champion will take home GBP 850 000, with the second and third place finishers getting GBP 530 000 and GBP 285 000 respectively.
