Pub playing poker players could be on UK television

08/04/2007

Multiplatform interactive poker room Sky Poker is stepping out of the television studio and into the British pub by partnering with one the UK's largest pub poker leagues, the Poker Project.

Through the partnership, Sky Poker and Poker Project will work together to provide players in pubs across the UK with a fun and entertaining evening in which poker fans will be able to compare themselves with other poker players by earning points through quality of play, which will in turn provide them with ranking within a league. As part of the league Poker Project players may have the opportunity to appear live on Sky Poker Channel 846.

"We're really excited about our partnership with Sky Poker," said Aaron Chandiram, at the Poker Project. "Every week thousands of people enjoy a sociable and fun game of poker at their local pub with the Poker Project, all for an entrance fee of about GBP 2.50. We're delighted that with Sky Poker these players will feel a little closer to games they see online and on TV."

The Poker Project started out in May 2006 in Buckinghamshire with four locations and 250 members - it now has 4 500 members playing at nearly 100 pubs across the country. All Poker Project players compete to come top of the national league table in any three month period.

"At Sky Poker we're proud to offer a fun and entertaining poker experience for new and more experienced players on both TV and online," said Emma Crowe, Head of Poker at Sky Poker. "Now, through our partnership with the Poker Project, we offer a fun live environment for people to learn and play poker. We're excited that with the Poker Project the Sky Poker community is continuing to grow."
