According to the latest statistically based chart positions at Poker Scout.com, Poker Stars.com remains the top of the pops with poker players around the world, fighting off a strong challenge from a resurgent Party Poker.com.

The latter is at something of a disadvantage having eschewed U.S. player action, but there is little doubt that the Poker Stars' mix of big action promos and tournaments, allied to efficient operational management continues to encourage growth.

In the latest chart, pegged in the early hours of Sunday morning and covering the previous week, 5 700 cash players are recorded in action at Poker Stars, rising to a peak of 11 740 over a 24 hour period and a daily average over the 7 days of 8 682. By contrast, Party Poker figures are recorded as 2 473 players, with 8 883 as a daily peak and 5 844 over the 7 days.

Full Tilt Poker, another site that welcomes U.S. action, is in 3rd place with 3629, 6 016 and 4 418 respectively, with Ongame Network in the 4th slot with 1 397, 5 866 and 3 345.

The unbiquitous Everest Poker.com has used a very active promo and publicity mix to boost its action, and currently is in number 5 position with 848, 4 469 and 2 446 stats.

iPoker Network from Playtech is at number 6 with 1 135, 4 365 and 2 776, follwed in number 7 position by the burgeoning Swedish government monopoly Svenska Spel with 668, 3 125 and 1 701.

Bodog occupies the 8th ranking with 1 230 players, with a 24 hour peak of 2 342 and a 7 day average of 1 304.

Microgaming Poker Network makes the Top Ten at number 9 with 571, 2 342 and 1 523, just pipping Ultimate Bet which comes into the number 10 slot with 1 190, 2 241 and 1 525.

Further down in the rankings are well known names like Absolute Poker, Moss Media's IPN and Cryptologic's network, followed even further down the totem pole with Pacific Poker, Ladbrokes, Cake Poker Network, B2B and Paradise Poker.

At the foot of the chart we find Merge Gaming, World Poker Exchange, Action Poker, Doyle's Room and the Skill Games Network.
