The high stakes poker action last week was notable for some massive losses to two prominent online poker nosebleed stakes players, Phil “Polarizing” Ivey and Paul “MalACEsia” Phua, who were both down hundreds of thousands of dollars, according to the High Stakes Data Base.
Phua took the biggest hit playing a range of aggressive and highly skilled opponents, and at the end of the week was down $603,392 in just over 1,300 hands; the Asian ace has not had a happy month on the tables, and his latest loss exacerbates the situation.
Ivey also felt the pain, losing $589,730 over 5,917 hands during a week that followed a previous loss of $113,000.
Both were in good company – you have to feel for Gus Hansen, who went down another $358,287 last week, along with Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond (down $275,918) and Patrik “FinddaGrind” Antonius (down $221,814).
On the brighter side, top winners last week were Alex “Alexonmoon” Luneau, who took home $390,067, and Dan “jungleman12” Cates, who recorded a $232,614 profit.
Over the year so far, the two biggest winners are Cates on $1.35 million and German ace Niki Jedlicka on $1.21 million.
At the other end of the scale, the two biggest losers thus far this year are Gus Hansen, who is down $2.9 million in 2014 alone, and Phil Ivey, who has recorded losses this year of $2.5 million.
