Prima and Poker Room go to head to head in online poker.

By RP, August 18, 2005

It seems just yesterday that Poker Pulse ranked the extensive Prima Poker network as number 3 in size behind market leader Party Poker and number 2 site Poker Stars, but this week Poker Room were claiming to have unseated Prima.

The Swedish company issued a press release to announce that it is now the third-largest online poker site in the world, quoting industry information site PokerPulse.com.

The Poker Room release says that the online poker sector has grown into a $2-billion (USD) industry with more than 200 sites worldwide, and claims that Poker Room’s network now boasts more than 4-million players from 150 countries, growing three times as fast (323 percent) as the entire online poker industry (156 per cent) in the last year alone.

The company points to innovative achievements as the source of its success. In April 2005, PokerRoom.com revolutionised the online poker category with the launch of its Mobile Poker – the first interactive, real money mobile phone poker that enables users to play Texas Hold ‘Em from mobile phones against other PokerRoom.com members playing from a mobile or a computer. It was also named Online Poker Site of the Year by the readers of the poker trade magazine Inside Edge.

The release goes on to highlight the companys commitment to responsible gaming and player-protective operational practice through the G4 and eCOGRA organisations respectively.
