33-year-old New York professional player Shaun Deeb, one of the many notable names at this year’s World Series of Poker, has boosted his $1.5 million in live tourney career earnings with a $111,101 victory – and his second WSOP bracelet – in the $1,500 buy-in Seven Card Stud competition.
Good cards and consummate skill and experience made the competition a relatively easy ride for Deeb as he cruised home for his 35th WSOP cash after besting an entry field of 331 to claim the lion’s share of the $446,850 prize pool, in which 50 finishers cashed.
Deeb came into the final table among the chip leaders, with only former champ Eugene Katchalov in front of him, but he rapidly overtook the leader and then set about eliminating the rest of the opposition over the next few hours, busting five of his seven rivals with aggressive and efficient play.
Entering the heads up against fellow bracelet holder Adam Friedman from Ohio, Deeb held half the chips in play and retained the momentum, building on his success and using the advantage skilfully to finally dismiss Friedman with a second placing prize of $68,666.
