The game, explained
Reviewed Poker explains the rules, language and ideas behind poker. Our articles start with the fundamentals: how a hand develops, which cards count, how betting works and why the order of action matters.
We use worked examples and illustrations to make those details easier to follow. A diagram should support the explanation, so ranks, suits and the number of cards need to be as accurate as the words around it.
Understanding before assumptions
Our guides distinguish the rules of a game from strategic ideas and from the conditions of a particular event. We identify the variant where it changes the answer. An explanation of a decision is not a promise about a result.
Read our editorial policy for how we use sources, check examples and handle corrections.
